So I watched the doctor who xmas special...
It was ok but not as good as the normal seasons of the series.
But then again the xmas specials rarely are since they tend to take place outside of the normal realm of doctor who adventures while still somehow managing to remain within the continuity of the series.
While still usually being enjoyable, they can more or less be considered filler episodes that have no real bearing on anything else going on in the doctor who universe, Which in reality is all they are meant to be. The regular season ends then we have the xmas episode to fill the void and keep us waiting for the next season to begin, however when compared to last years xmas episode this years installment seemed to fall a little short with me.
The beginning was a giant "WTF is going on?" moment which is not uncommon for doctor who but normally these moments are made more clear as the episode goes on, not the case here.
After that nothing really happens until the episode is about half way over, there was way to much time spent on the set up for such a mediocre conclusion. Again large build ups are not uncommon in doctor who but are usually worth the wait and it becomes clear why they take the amount of time to set things up that they do, However again thats not the case here.
And the ending was overly predictable, I pretty much knew how it was going to end by the half way point of the episode and even found myself reciting the typical lines that would be expected from such a situation in any modern tv series or movie.
I dont have a problem with them going with the obvious ending because after all it is a xmas episode but would it hurt to spice it up a little bit? The whole thing just seemed really bland which is not what I expect from doctor who, especially considering this is the last episode we get of doctor who until September. Almost a full year to wait for the next season of doctor who and this is what they give us to tide us over until them...Really?
Well at least from what I hear, Sherlock is coming back so there is always that to look forward to.
